Trails and Trail Uses of the Biltmore Equestrian Center

bc horses

Biltmore offers an extensive trail system with well over 100 Miles of marked trails that are available to Biltmore Equestrian Center boarders and equine passholders, and equestrian campers and day riders, who pay a per diem fee. These trails are also used for special events sponsored by the Biltmore Equestrian Center, and competitions sponsored by NATRC and AERC. There are multiple well-marked trails on the East Side of the French Broad River varying in length from 5 to 18 miles with shorter options for most trail available. There are also trails varying in length from 6 to 13 miles used for special occasions on the West Range (the west side of the French Broad River).

East Side Trails are generally open as the Estate is open to passholders and other guests of BEC. The West Range Trails have access limited to occasions such as West Range Rides, some hunter paces, and some competitions.

This site will provide information on the trails (particularly maps) used by the Biltmore Equestrian Center for its various user groups.

Particular upcoming events will have 'top billing', with everyday 'day rider' trails towards the bottom.

This is an experimental arrangement.  Comments on maps should be addressed to Stagg Newman.  Comments on the web site should be addressed to Cheryl Newman.

West Range Rides -- April 27, 2024.  Bridge gates will open at 9am and riders must be off the West Range by 3pm.  For maps see the West Range.  For full logistics, contact BEC 828 225 1454.  In general, $20 / rider, payable 'at the bridge' that crosses the French Broad River.

Biltmore Challenge -- May 3 - 4, 2024

Fall Ride at Biltmore to Benefit Hope for Horses -- September 21, 2024

NATRC "French Broad Classic" -- mid-October

Day Trails--trail summary maps and information are available below.    The French Broad River separates the East Side Trails (main part of the Estate) from the West Range Trails.

All east side trails and the access trails to and from the bridge over the French Broad River are marked to start and finish at the BEC outdoor riding arena. The West Range trails are loops that start and stop at the bridge over the French Broad River. West Range Trails are accessed by the intra-Estate bridge across the French Broad River when these trails are open.

The start and stop at the outdoor riding arena is about ½ mile from the Day Trailer Parking area. The last ½ mile of the Red, White, Orange, and Green trails pass behind the Day Trailer Parking area. Riders can use this trail to ride to the start of the trails at the arena. The map (not yet available) shows the area around the Biltmore Equestrian Center including the Day Trailer Parking (DTP) and the outdoor riding arena where trails start and stop.

All trails are marked with either black or white arrows on diamonds. The background color of the diamond defines the trail color. Octagons in the trail color with either black of white X’s indicate the trail does not go in the direction. Riders on a particular color trail should never pass on X of that color. More information is given in the trail descriptions and legends below.

East Side trail information includes an overview legend; West Range trail information has its own overview legend (outdated!!!) . For each side of the River, you will find a combined overview map; then individual colored trail maps and individual sheets with legends and summary trail descriptions.
